Hove's Western Road sees some comings and goings – shops opening and shutting, restaurants starting up and closing down. The latest new kid on the block is Patisserie Valerie at No 86-87 and we hope it's going to stick around a long, long time...

Patisserie Valerie is a London-based patisserie that offers a combination of early morning breakfasts, delivered catering, wedding cakes and a dazzling array of indulgent offerings. Its executives hope that its arrival sees the creation of 20-25 new jobs in our area.

It was opened by the Hove and Portslade MP, Mike Weatherley, who said, "I've heard great things about Patisserie Valerie already so I'm really glad that this respected firm is coming to Hove. Western Road is a great spot and I know the location well. I'll certainly be popping in for a coffee and cake soon."

"We are delighted to be opening in Hove," said Patisserie Valerie's Chief Executive Officer Paul May, "and we want to extend a warm welcome to local residents and visitors.

"Despite the current climate of doom and gloom, we have been able to bring investment and new jobs to the UK's high streets. If anything the enthusiasm of the public has taken us by surprise.

"We look for high quality shopping venues in which to open and Hove fits the bill perfectly."

So welcome, Pattiserie Valerie. We're planning to sample PV soon... and it won't be a painful ordeal, I imagine.
