Sussex Police report that a 33-year-old Worthing man has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after a dog was discovered dead at the side of the A27 on Sunday. UPDATE: he has been released on bail until 14 December.

The man handed himself into Worthing Police Station last night (Monday) and remains in custody today (Tuesday).

Police were alerted to the dog's death after a witness reported seeing a car being driven at the Devils Dyke car park in Brighton dragging a dog behind it at around 10pm on Sunday.

The dog, a Beagle Collie-cross, was then found in a lay-by on the A27 to the west of the Southwick Tunnel.

Anyone who witnessed the incident who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1416 of 20/11.

I hope that the person who done this rots in hell - and even that would be too good for him. The type of person who can do this to a poor defenceless dog should not be allowed to walk the streets. The pain that the poor helpless dog endured does not even bear to think about. I hope they lock him up and throw away the key !!!
