While we're on the subject of people the police are currently looking for, Sussex detectives are hoping a BBC Crimewatch appeal will help catch a man wanted for string of burglaries nationwide.

On Thursday evening – that's tonight – 26 January at 9pm BBC Crimewatch will show the photograph of a man wanted for interview about a string of burglaries across the country.

48-year old Barrie Gordon Williamson, who was born in Newcastle but has links to Milton Keynes, Norfolk, Lancashire, Kent, Hampshire and Sussex - regularly uses the name Chris Williamson, Chris Woodall and Paul Hutchinson.

Williamson is white, about 5'7", stocky, and speaks with a north east accent.  He targets homes during the daytime and is believed to use public transport. He targets jewellery, and has also been known to ingratiate himself with elderly or vulnerable people in order to stay at their premises and then steal from them.

Detective Sergeant David Osland of Sussex CID said; "In Sussex we want to interview Williamson about at least seven burglaries, in Worthing, Lancing, Brighton, Hove, Seaford and Eastbourne, and there are several others which may be linked to him in the same areas, all in the last three months of 2011.

"Officers in Dorset, Kent, Norfolk, Nottinghamshire and Lancashire also want to talk to him about burglaries in those areas. We are working with those forces and others across the country to track him down and hope the Crimewatch appeal will bring forward information."

Viewers can respond via the Crimewatch numbers and website, but you can also call us via 101 quoting serial 0878 of 28/9/11, or you can call independent charity Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111.
