I find that when I stop and ask people why they are riding on the prom I get one of 4 reasons;
1) They didn't see the signs (There are so many there I fail to understand how they can't see them)
2) There weren't many people on the promenade so they thought it was alright.
3) They wanted to ride by the sea
4) They didn't know where the cycle path was.
I am regularly down on the promenade dealing with cyclists (and at the risk of being contraversial I am normally on a bike) either by way of fixed penalty notices or warning notices. The BHCC Seafront Officers are also there on a daily basis telling people to get off their bikes.
So, what's the answer? Although I would love to, I can't be there all day every day dealing with this as there are other issues that I also have to deal with (as I'm sure you'll understand). Your feedback is, however, always appreciated.

ReportOddly enough, after I made my impassioned plea yesterday, i went down to the Prom and for the first time ever, there didn't seem to be a bike to be seen. I was just marvelling at this when a 30ish middle class lady swept past me serenely on a Dutch sit-up-and-beg. So there's still a bit of work to be done. But thanks for yesterday's visit, it seemed to do the trick, for a while at least I hope!
