-
Everyone's donning their gladrags for tonight – well these two are
1) Go to bed early
2) The box: BBC 1: live celebrations in London, Big Ben chimes etc
BBC 2: Jools Holland & Co
ITV 1: The News
C4: Rude Tube – videos
C5: woeful film starring Frankie Howerd (Up The Front)
3) ...or you could always go out...could be still time to check out the party possibles:
For a traditional hotel bash, lots of glitter and bags of glam, there is the Lansdowne Place Hotel. The Lansdowne's New Years Eve Party is £60 per person in the Ball Room Suite, with live band Wicked Soul.
For a big thrash with a '100% party atmosphere' and a huge range of Indonesian/Malaysian food, we have the Bali Brasserie in First Avenue. A five-course Dinner plus live music from the band Take Stock, featuring five singers and specialising in 60s and 70s numbers, costs £39.95 plus 10% discretionary service charge. Plenty of room at the BB to twirl your partners, too.
Slightly more restrained, and with their own delicious mix of Italian dishes, is Leonardo's Restaurant at 55 Church Road. There is no live band but there will be music and plenty of fun we were informed, and the 'waiters will dance' as midnight chimes. The Christmas menu will be on offer at £17.95 a head.
At the smart and foodilicious Tin Drum in Second Avenue, there will be a jolly music and a hog roast buffet – great combination! Entry is £5 including nosh.
For music fans the Brunswick pub has the Horsemeat Disco – soul'n'funk – doing their thang until 3am. Great atmosphere!

If you're a bit of a French foodie fan, head down to the acclaimed L'Eglise on Church Road, who will give you a feast with plenty of Gallic flair and charm. They're offering a special 4-course menu for £30 a head, with champagne and a 'little dance' when the bells strike.
And if you want to delve that little bit further, head north to the Devil's Dyke, at Dyke Road, Poynings. There's something to be said for having a party up there amongst that wild loveliness. For £35 a head they are providing a 4-course luxurious meal, plus entertainment.

I always find New Year a little over hyped and over-priced but maybe this year will be different...
