Ruth Buckley Green
Party
Ruth Buckley is a mother of two boys under
two, and a life-long Green voter. She was inspired to stand as a councillor
after helping with Caroline Lucas's successful parliamentary election campaign
last year. Her work on the campaign persuaded her there was a need for women
with young families to be better represented in local politics. She uses local
amenities for children most days, so is in a good position to ensure they are
well-run.
If elected, the two issues Ruth would love to address are: the lack
of provision such as day centres for the city's homeless; and the shortage of
primary school places in Goldsmid ward. Ruth is determined to tackle the
growing problem of children having to travel long distances to primary school,
because of the combination of too few school places, and tiny catchment areas.

Rob Buckwell Conservative
Party Candidate
Living in the ward and working in Hove, I
am passionate about my local area.
I studied Spanish at Bristol University,
and am fluent in the language. I currently work for Majestic Wines on the Old
Shoreham Road. I was involved with Mike Weatherley’s successful parliamentary
campaign for Hove in the 2010 general election, and have since undertaken some
work in his Westminster office.
I passionately believe in giving more
freedom and responsibility back to individuals and local communities, and this
principle would guide my approach to my work as a Councillor should I be
fortunate enough to be elected.
I would love the opportunity to represent
Goldsmid ward, and look forward to working for the betterment of my local
community and the city if elected.

Adam James Love Conservative
Party Candidate
I adore Hove and have made my home here,
having moved around a lot when I was younger. As well as to being a Governor at
Blatchington Mill School, I’m very pleased to be standing for election in the
ward that I live in. My local connection gives me a good insight into the
issues and concerns of residents, since I am one myself!
I work in Boris Johnson’s City Hall and have
a background in Parliament and local government, including Brighton & Hove
City Council. I think this experience makes me an effective representative for
local people and has exposed me to ideas that have been successful in other
towns and cities that could work well here; like ‘Boris Bikes’ which I’m
championing.
My priorities are to (1) keep council tax
low, (2) fight for more local police officers, (3) see better street cleaning
and bin collections, and (4) create enough school places for local children.
When I’m not talking to people on the
doorstep, I’m a keen sportsman and can often be found on football pitches or
tennis courts across Hove. I’m also a (very) amateur gardener and grow tomatoes
(and other veg) under the guidance of Jim, my wise next-door neighbour.
